Do you speak 'media'?!

Many practices have told us that before they worked with us, they have really struggled to get editorial coverage in the local press.
Here are 5 top tips to help you do so:

- Is the story really news? Put yourself in the editors shoes - if it isn't, amend it so that it becomes so!
- Don't send it to the editor - they're busy and will probably ignore it. Send it to a more junior member of the editorial team who is keen for brownie points.
- Ask - many journalists get fed up with being sent press releases that they feel are of no interest to their readers. Why not ask them what is?
- Follow up - local journalists get supplied with a lot of stories and could forget yours. Give them a call and give them a reason to remember you.
- Format - having asked them what they want, supply it in good English, in a recognised format - make their lives as easy as possible. I'll let you into a little secret, most local journalists are lazy! They all dreamed of working at Reuters or the BBC, didn't get it and now want an easy life! If you can help them do their job, they'll help you do yours!!
